Main Thought The Bible is much more than just a rule book. It’s a story about people and our need for a savior. God chose one man, Abraham, and through him chose one nation, Israel, and some of the rules given at that specific time, for that specific people, don’t apply anymore. We need to hear God’s heart for giving each rule and understand the context of the culture and time. The New Testament’s focus of God’s rules is no longer to set a people apart by following strict outward signs (circumcision, diet, dress, Sabbath), but on our hearts, to love God and others. Christians should be careful to hold onto God’s rules and not just human traditions (Mark 7:3-8).
