Anointing

In the four Gospels, each account tells a story of a woman anointing Jesus with perfume. The story is set in a house over a meal, a woman pours expensive perfume on Jesus, and someone objects. So what?

Bonus Questions
Who objected to what the woman did? (Matthew 26:8, Mark 14:4, Luke 7:39, John 12:4)
Why did the author write or name who objected the way they did?

Main Thought
Sometimes we think we know a story because it sounds familiar. What really happened and how is what we typically like to focus in on. People share stories differently. That something happened once or multiple times and that the who, what, when, and where differs should make us read the Bible a little more closely.

“Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.”

Matthew 26:13 (KJV)

“Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.”

Mark 14:9 (KJV)
